Early Work On Project Amazon Progresses
Sunday 27th March 2022
Construction work on Project Amazon at Chessington appears to be progressing well. Since our last visit to the park, a time-lapse camera has been set up on the site office shipping container in the corner of the site and further site preparation has happened. We expect that the next stage of construction will be pilling into the ground where foundations for footers will start to begin.

Early Foundation Works Begin For Project Amazon
Sunday 13th March 2022
Construction work on Project Amazon is in full swing with the site completely cleared and early work on foundations beginning. We can already see loads of small trenches where foundations could be put, yellow markers around the site also seem to show a brief layout of the rollercoaster. Since we've last been able to walk around the whole park more green fences have been installed down the Wild Woods side path where the Vile Villages Halloween attraction once stood.

The compound has now been fully cleared of shipping containers and objects and has now become a site access route and contractor facilities station.

Towards Dragons Fury, banners have been installed on the construction walls advertising the new area to have a 2023 opening date. And that this is going to be the park's wildest adventure yet!

Chessington Project Amazon Plans Approved
Friday 28th January 2022
Good news for Project Amazon at Chessington World of Adventures! After waiting months for the application to be reviewed, the plans have finally been given the green light and the park can go ahead with the construction of the new area.

Construction work can officially begin on the old picnic field, adjacent to Dragons Fury. Project Amazon is the latest investment by Merlin, with the installation of 2 new flat rides and a new rollercoaster, the parks first rollercoaster since Dragons Fury was built in 2004.

We can't wait to see this space transformed into a brand new area over the next few months.

Chessington 2023 Rollercoaster Plans Submitted
Monday 9th August 2021
Chessington has submitted plans to the local council for the installation of a brand new rollercoaster and two new flat rides in a new area code-named "Project Amazon", suspected to be opening in 2023.

Since the initial public consultation, drawings and plans have been developed further and we are now confident enough to say that this could be a Boomerang B&M wing coaster, the first of its kind! When looking at the plans for the station, a close up of the track designs shows a track section that resembles B&M box track.

Sat on the picnic field that's currently hosting Wilderfest 2021, this area, if approved, would become the home of the first new rollercoaster at the park since 2004 and the first rollercoaster at Chessington to have an inversion.

The rollercoaster station would run parallel to the pathway that runs down the side of The Vampire, next to the Blue Barnacle. No name looks to have been decided yet, but it is expected from looking at the plans that this will also be a launched rollercoaster.

The layout appears to send guests backwards up a small spike, then launching them further around the track.  Guests will be taken on a journey through a small barrel roll inversion, over a new entrance feature, then travelling around a small spiral around a new main piece of theming for the area. Then when reaching 0mph the ride will roll backwards and do the same journey again! The station for the ride will also be covered, which is a change since the first public consultation, there will also be two sides of the station, A and B. It is also expected that the ride will have a pre-show before boarding and a shop at the exit.

Not only is there a new rollercoaster in "Project Amazon", but two new flat rides. Currently named Children's Ride A and B, these two rides will be a great addition to the park's lineup. By looking at the plans, these two new rides look to be like a Miami side sweeper and some sort of carousel-style ride.

No theme is officially revealed for the new area, but there are some colour schemes for the main theming element that the rollercoaster would half travel up. One planning application document that looks interesting is an overview of the whole area, where in the middle there's some winding paths that look similar to the board game in the film Jumanji.

We look forward to following the future and development of "Project Amazon"!

Chessington Previews Project Amazon And New Rollercoaster At 2021 Public Consultation
Monday 17th May 2021
Chessington World Of Adventures has announced project Amazon, a new rollercoaster and 2 new flat rides to be installed on the grass bank next to Dragons Fury, previously used for Summer Bounce and summer picnics.

The new area is currently codenamed Project Amazon and we have a small idea of what we can expect when the area opens. No opening date has been set but art a guess we would expect this new area to open in 2023 at the earliest.

From looking at the plans and artist impressions it looks like the rollercoaster will be a wing coaster, something similar to Thirteen or a boomerang. With the station being loaded from both sides it looks like guests will be unable to cross the station. When looking carefully at the plans it also looks like the rollercoaster will have an inversion which will make this ride the first rollercoaster at Chessington with an inversion.

EMERGING PROPOSALS

A new Amazon themed Land is proposed that will include:

-A new rollercoaster – guests will be propelled on a car through banks and turns before coming to a dead end on the track adjacent to a themed structure on the southern part of the site. The car will then be propelled along the same route back to the station located on the north east part of the site. A hard standing ride maintenance area is to be provided adjacent to the ride station.

-Two children’s rides – the exact details of the proposed children’s rides are to be confirmed but they will comprise two low-level rides similar in character to Seastorm and Jungle Bus currently at the Resort.

-New Landscaping - to enhance the surrounding environment.

TREES AND LANDSCAPING:

Any tree loss at the site will be minimised. Where trees do need to be removed this will not affect existing landscaping screening of the important view lines to the south and south east of the site. Extensive thematic planting as part of the immersive Amazon theming will be provided within the site which will give a sense of intimacy to the area and add to the existing mature peripheral planting and landscape screening. Overall there will be a significant increase in trees as a result of the development.
