Chessington HOWL'O'WEEN 2026

HOWL'O'WEEN is back at Chessington World of Adventures for 2026, bringing plenty of spooky family fun to the Resort! This year's event is largely unchanged from 2025, with returning attractions, entertainment and Halloween experiences alongside one brand-new show, Dr Frankenfine's Haunted House Party.

As Chessington is primarily a family theme park, HOWL'O'WEEN focuses more on fun and entertainment than terrifying scare mazes. While the existing line-up works well for younger guests, we do feel there's room for another family-friendly maze or scare zone to give returning visitors something different to experience.

Chessington HOWL'O'WEEN 2026 takes place on 3rd–4th, 10th–11th October and 17th October–1st November 2026.

Dr Frankenfine's Haunted House Party – New for 2026

Brand-new for HOWL'O'WEEN 2026 is Dr Frankenfine's Haunted House Party, taking over the park's main stage with a collection of funky monsters for an electrifying Halloween celebration.

Dr Frankenfine is throwing the ultimate haunted house party, inviting guests to join his monster companions for a family-friendly show filled with music, dancing and spooky entertainment.

We really enjoyed this year's new addition! The costumes looked fantastic, the songs were catchy and the dancing brought plenty of energy to the stage. It's a fun show that fits perfectly with Chessington's family audience, offering something fresh for returning visitors who have already experienced the rest of the Halloween line-up.

Stone Watchers: Vampire's Lair

Stone Watchers: Vampire's Lair returns for another year, inviting guests to venture into an eerie pathway guarded by mysterious stone gargoyles. Created to protect the Vampire's Lair from evil spirits, these creatures remain perfectly still until unsuspecting visitors get too close. Guests must carefully make their way through without disturbing the Stone Watchers, although that's easier said than done!

This year's experience follows largely the same route and features the same characters as 2025, but there's a small extension towards the end, taking guests slightly further down the hill than in previous years. It's a welcome addition that makes the experience feel a little longer without changing what already works.

One interesting change for 2026 is the removal of the crossed-arms system from last year, which previously allowed guests to indicate that they didn't want to be scared. Crossing your arms no longer means the actors will avoid scaring you, so it's worth bearing in mind if you're visiting with younger children or anyone who might be nervous.

Although Stone Watchers remains relatively unchanged, it's still a fun addition to HOWL'O'WEEN and offers something a little spookier for families looking for a few jump scares.

Enchanted Hollow: Trick or Treat

Hidden beneath the earth, Enchanted Hollow is a charming underground village filled with friendly critters, cosy burrows and winding tunnels. Families are invited to explore the village, knock on doors and meet its unusual residents while collecting sweet treats along the way. Of course, not every resident is quite as friendly as they first appear, with a few cheeky tricks waiting to surprise visitors.

Enchanted Hollow: Trick or Treat remains one of our favourite experiences at HOWL'O'WEEN. The whole attraction feels incredibly personal and interactive, with plenty of opportunities for children to engage with the characters rather than simply walking through and collecting sweets.

The treats are still Haribo, which we think is a slight downgrade from the chocolate bars offered in previous years. After all, you can't go wrong with chocolate! However, you do receive a generous amount of sweets for the price, making it good value compared with similar experiences at other theme parks.

We actually prefer Chessington's version to the equivalent trick-or-treat experience at Alton Towers. Not only do you receive more sweets, but the interaction with the characters makes the entire experience feel much more special. It's a really cute attraction and one that families with younger children should definitely consider experiencing.

Rising Flame: Shadows of the Tomb

Rising Flame: Shadows of the Tomb returns for HOWL'O'WEEN 2026, bringing another fiery spectacle to Chessington. Deep within a recently disturbed tomb, ancient spirits awaken as mummified monsters attempt to summon their powerful leader through fire, music and energetic dance performances.

This year's show features a few changes, including new characters and the addition of a fire performer, which brings an extra level of excitement to the production. Rising Flame has always been an entertaining show, and these additions help keep it feeling fresh for returning visitors.

Our biggest frustration isn't with the show itself but with the park's opening hours during Halloween. Rising Flame would look absolutely fantastic performed in complete darkness, with the fire effects creating a much more dramatic atmosphere. Unfortunately, Chessington's longer opening hours are generally limited to the final weekend or two of HOWL'O'WEEN, meaning guests visiting earlier in the event don't always get the opportunity to experience the entertainment after dark.

We'd love to see Chessington extend its Halloween opening hours across more dates, allowing guests to enjoy the rides, lighting and entertainment later into the evening. It would make a huge difference to the overall atmosphere and give shows like Rising Flame the setting they deserve.

Barnyard Boogie

Barnyard Boogie returns for another year, bringing its quirky scarecrow duo back to entertain families with music, dancing and plenty of Halloween humour. The straw-filled characters appear around the Resort for a light-hearted pop-up performance, encouraging guests to join in with the fun.

It's a really cute little show, with the two scarecrows entertaining guests through catchy songs, dancing and jokes. While it's a fairly simple experience, the performers do a great job of getting families involved and creating a fun atmosphere.

For 2026, Barnyard Boogie has moved to a new location opposite Room on the Broom – A Magical Journey, which we think works really well. The new setting feels like a natural home for the show and gives families another reason to stop and enjoy some entertainment while exploring this part of the park.

Halloween Decorations and Atmosphere

One thing Chessington continues to do well during HOWL'O'WEEN is decorating the park for Halloween. There are some lovely themed displays scattered around the Resort, alongside atmospheric lighting that helps transform familiar areas into something a little spookier.

We particularly liked the ride-themed pumpkins inspired by Dragon's Fury and Croc Drop, which are brilliant little additions. It's great to see the park incorporating its own attractions into the Halloween decorations rather than relying entirely on generic pumpkins and spooky props.

The lighting around the park also looks fantastic, although we'd love more opportunities to enjoy it after dark. With the event taking place throughout October, extending the opening hours would allow guests to appreciate the decorations and atmosphere properly, particularly during the earlier weekends.

Halloween Merchandise

One disappointing change for HOWL'O'WEEN 2026 is the apparent lack of new event merchandise. During our visit, we didn't spot any new dedicated HOWL'O'WEEN products for this year, which is a shame considering the Halloween collections available at other Merlin theme parks.

We'd love to see Chessington introduce more event-specific merchandise, particularly designs featuring its popular Halloween characters, shows and attractions. Even a small collection of T-shirts, hoodies or collectible souvenirs would give returning visitors something new to take home.

Overall Review – Is Chessington HOWL'O'WEEN 2026 Worth Visiting?

Chessington HOWL'O'WEEN 2026 is another enjoyable Halloween event, offering a great mixture of family entertainment, interactive experiences and a few spooky surprises. While the line-up hasn't changed significantly from last year, there's still plenty to enjoy, particularly for families with younger children.

Dr Frankenfine's Haunted House Party is a welcome new addition, bringing some fresh entertainment to the main stage, while returning favourites such as Rising Flame and Stone Watchers continue to deliver enjoyable experiences. Enchanted Hollow: Trick or Treat remains a particular highlight thanks to its fantastic character interactions and generous selection of sweets.

One of the biggest strengths of HOWL'O'WEEN is its value for money. Most of the Halloween entertainment is included with standard park admission, with Enchanted Hollow: Trick or Treat being the main additional paid experience. With free shows, roaming entertainment, a scare zone and Halloween decorations throughout the park, there's plenty for families to experience without having to spend much extra.

However, we do feel the event could benefit from another family-friendly maze or scare zone. Chessington doesn't need huge, terrifying attractions to compete with the likes of Thorpe Park's Fright Nights, but something new would give returning visitors another reason to come back. That said, the existing line-up works well, and adding more isn't necessarily essential.

The biggest improvement we'd love to see is longer opening hours across more of the event. Halloween attractions, lighting and fire shows are always more impressive after dark, and keeping the rides open later would make HOWL'O'WEEN feel like a much bigger occasion.

It's also a shame that there doesn't appear to be any new merchandise for 2026, especially when other Merlin parks continue to offer dedicated Halloween collections.

Looking ahead to 2027, with Chessington's new World of Minecraft area set to open, we can't help but wonder whether we might see something Minecraft-themed incorporated into next year's HOWL'O'WEEN celebrations. It's purely speculation, but there's certainly potential for something fun!

Overall, HOWL'O'WEEN remains a brilliant family-friendly Halloween event that offers good value and plenty of entertainment. It might not have the biggest changes for 2026, but the combination of shows, characters, decorations and interactive attractions makes it a great way to enjoy Halloween at Chessington.
