Alton Towers Erases David Walliams' World as Removal Begins Just Days After Closure
The removal of The World of David Walliams has already begun at Alton Towers, with almost every reference to the former themed area disappearing just days after its sudden closure.
Following the announcement that the area would permanently close from Tuesday 3rd November 2026, we expected to see the attractions shut and access restricted. However, what we didn't expect was just how quickly Alton Towers would begin removing almost every trace of David Walliams from the area.
All themed signage has been removed, including the entrance archway, which now consists of just the metal support poles. Even the large 'DW' initials on the area's clock have been painted over. It's almost as though the themed area never existed!
The only remaining reference we've spotted is signage for 'The Crown Jewels Tour', although anyone unfamiliar with the books or the former attraction probably wouldn't make the connection.
Large fences now block the main entrance, preventing guests from accessing the area's three rides: Gangsta Granny: The Ride, Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp and the carousel.
Meanwhile, the nearby Driving School remains open, with fencing and planters separating it from the closed area.
So, what's next for this part of Alton Towers?
We wouldn't be surprised to see the area reopen in 2027 under its former Cloud Cuckoo Land identity, although we suspect Gangsta Granny: The Ride could remain closed while the park decides what to do with the dark ride.
For now, Alton Towers certainly isn't wasting any time erasing The World of David Walliams from the park!
